Yokai Kanji and Kana Workshop

Bakemono, yokai, yurei etc. are an integral part of Japanese folk lore and mythology; from ancient times to the present day cinema, literature, manga, anime and games. This ink painting workshop introduces some of the more famous Japanese yokai and their sources. You use sumi and fude to paint original Edo period yokai, learn yokai basic concepts, then design your very own! This yokai workshop will also focus on basic kanji and kana to include in your yokai design. Furthermore, an orignal, white blank Japanese fan will be provided on which you can apply your favorite yokai and take it home! From Genki to you.

Materials provided: Japanese brush w. sumi ink (black). Japanese fan. Pens, crayons etc. will be provided to add color to your art works.Overhead slides w. printed handouts to take home.
